Man shall not live by bread alone
It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Many years before, God led the Children of Israel out of Egyptian bondage by the hand of Moses, and into the Land of Canaan, a land that was said to "flow with milk and honey. Then in our text from Matthew chapter 4, Jesus had been led out in the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. He had been there fasting, not for forth years, but for forty days. Not By Bread Alone
Simply stated, logos is the written word of God. Today, if you hear his voice, harden not your hearts is the admonition of the New Testament. Daily we stand, to hear what the Spirit is saying to us. He provides us with the living bread we are to feed on for this day and the green grass that nourishes us. This word is a fountain of living water that refreshes not only our lives, but overflows to others. As we move through these days, the rhema of God becomes increasing more necessary for us to navigate our times. Proverbs reads, Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors. For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord, but he who fails to find me injures himself; all who hate me love death. Shall it be less so for us?
Origin of “Man Does Not Live By Bread Alone”
This expression is an ancient one and actually comes from the Bible. This proverb is found in two places in the Bible, both in the Old and the New Testament. This expression has been repeated many times in literature. Whereas Nietzche, by bringing up the meat of lambs, was making fun of those who would follow the word of the bible like willing sheep, Dostoevsky took a more pious and liberal view of the passage. The idea of hte devil could be suitable only to a man-brute; Christ knew that is was not brad alone that would give man life.

Definition: Humans need more than just sustenance to have a fulfilled life; people have spiritual needs as well as physical needs. Most people interpret this to mean that people need God to live, just like they need food. While food will satisfy our physical needs, a relationship with God will satisfy our spiritual and emotional needs.
