A recent study found that men and women vary the strength, tone and pitch of their voices when speaking to members of the opposite sex whom they find attractive. At the same time, these subtle voice modulations make the speaker seem more attractive to the person who the speaker is addressing, the study says.

Researchers at the University of Liverpool in England teamed with researchers from the University of Stirling in Scotland to study the vocal ranges of more than men and women in courtship scenarios. When the men were talking to women they found attractive, the researchers found the men tended to speak in a more variable tone. In addition, when the men spoke to women they consider less attractive, their voices were not quite as deep as when they spoke to women they considered attractive.

When the voice recording of a man speaking to an attractive woman was played to female listeners, the listeners found the voice more attractive than a recording of the same man speaking to a less-attractive woman.

The sound of your voice plays a role in courtship, says clinical psychologist Scott Bea, PsyD. Bea did not take part in the study. Bea says. That will help you to keep your voice low — and, as a result, increase your attractiveness. Complete findings for the study appear in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior. What it means when a man’s voice gets higher

When you're wondering whether a guy likes you, his flirting signals can be maddeningly hard to decipher. Luckily, a new study is here to help you out with some advice: Tune in to a guy's voice if you want to know how he really feels, says a fascinating new study. To start, researchers had heterosexual men talk to a beautiful woman. They discovered that when men were sexually attracted to the women, the "paralingual" features of their voice like pitch and modulation gave it away.

Men voices change in a very specific way when they are speaking to someone they fancy, according to new research. The study, led by Stirling University, looked at heterosexual individuals, who were either English or Czech native speakers and analysed their vocal patterns when speaking to members of the opposite sex they found attractive and unattractive.

Whether they are a man or a woman, the best way to find out if the object of your crush returns your affections is probably just to talk to them. But in judging whether there's a spark between you, what they are saying may not be as important as how they say it. Dr Marina Kalashnikova, a speech and language researcher at the University of Western Sydney, said research had shown people's voices "carry a lot of information" about their feelings towards the person they're conversing with. And like the butterflies in your stomach, try as you might you are probably not going to be able to do anything about it. She said people with positive feelings towards each other began to display a phenomenon called phonetic convergence.

So you can totally tell if someone fancies you by what happens to their voice when they talk to you

Numerous self-help websites offer tips on how to read body language to tell if the object of our affection is interested in us. If their arms are folded, not so much. The biological gender differences in the human voice are very clear. Female voices have higher pitch and male voices have lower pitch. These differences are thought to be because of evolutionary pressures such as mating choices. In the animal world, pitch is associated with larger animals that can cause a bigger threat. So by lowering their pitch, males can show their physical dominance in front of their competitors and appear more sexually fit to females.
