Are you a morning person? I am not sure there is actually a set answer to this. I mean, I love my bed and hate getting up in the morning. But, I get up early most mornings. Why do I wake up early? Well, why do I keep waking up at 5am on my own accord?! Because I just have too much to do in order to be the best version of myself.
I work a full time job, manage a number of blogs and juggle a few other side hustles all whilst having an obsession of cooking great food for my husband most nights. Yep, he is a very lucky man. I need to make the most of my morning hours in order for me to be more efficient with my work and make time for everything. Literally — there is no other time for me but the morning. So — I have to be a morning person.
I have no choice. In the last few months, I have been waking up between am every day. Well, during the week that is. This gives me at least 2 hours extra in the morning to tick things off my to-do list before the rest of the world has woken up. I started doing this when I read how many successful people have built their businesses as a result of this habit. I am totally buzzing at how much I am able to achieve in this time. I want to share 6 ways to help you wake up early in order for you to make the most of the early hours and get productive.
This may sound like a no brainer but it is where I failed so many times when I was trying to teach myself to wake up early in the morning. If you sleep late, you will not get enough sleep. So, when you wake up at 5am and do manage to get out of bed you are likely to be too tired to function.
Get yourself into a routine of sleeping at the same time at night. Plan to get at least 7 hours sleep to help you wake up refreshed in the morning. My phone is my alarm because I have never been bothered to buy an alarm clock.
Anyway, the trick that has really worked for me when trying to wake up early is to put my alarm on my phone and leave it in another room. How does this help me wake up at 5am? When my alarm goes off, it really annoys me. Darn that annoying sound trying to get my out of bed. But — I then have to get out of bed in order to turn it off. This requires me physically getting out of bed, walking down the hallway and into another room.
Knowing the reason why you want to wake up at 5am is so important. Your intentions make a huge impact on your mindset. I need to find time for my side hustle i. I need extra time to get through my reading for exams yes, doctors study forever. I also need to have time to concentrate on other aspect of personal development, like learning a new language.
This is what gets up out of bed because I know if I sleep in, I will not be able to work on all my projects. Maybe you just want an hour to yourself to have breakfast before the kids come screaming at you with their million demands.
Perhaps you study best before going to school. Or maybe you want to use this time to conquer your business plan. Find your why and this will help you jump out bed at 5am. To help me be efficient with my time, even in the morning, I plan what I want to do the night before. I make a list of things I need to get done during my early morning routine. Sometime, I even write this down on a piece of paper so I can tick it off as I go along. I much prefer handwritten to-do lists then those on a phone.
This step helps me to stay focused and have a productive morning. For me, the worse case is waking up in the morning and finding yourself pottering around without actually using that time properly.
I mean, you got out of bed. Make it worth your while! Yes, I can smell you from here. This may sound like a silly tip to help you improve your morning routine but it is important. If you feel icky when you wake up and you then try to push yourself towards doing some work, you are probably not going to focus that well.
Make is a priority to freshen up early on in your productive morning routine. Treat this time like business time if you are using it to work on a side hustle or business. Now, here I am talking about waking up at 5am and how to become a morning person but I tell you to sleep?!
I constantly tried to wake up at 5am and carry out a early morning routine every day of the week. It just did not work. Because sometimes we need to relax and allow your body to chill out.
Only then can we make the most of the hours when we are working hard to achieve our goals. By giving yourself a lie in every now and then, you are treating your inner lazy person to a treat.
